PROGRAM INFORMATION
Short Description
The purpose of the Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) is to provide limited income seniors who are 55 years of age and older the opportunity to serve as one-on-one tutors and mentors to many young people who have special needs in our schools. Forster Grandparents are role models, mentors, and friends to children with exceptional needs. FGP volunteers have developed a lifetime of skills, talents, experience and work ethic that makes them a valuable resource in their communities.

Objective
Foster Grandparents serve from 15 to 40 hours per week in locations including schools, hospitals, juvenile correctional institutions, daycare facilities or Head Start centers. Volunteers receive per-service orientation, training from the organization where they serve, supplemental accident and liability insurance, and meals while on duty. Volunteers who meet certain income guidelines also receive a small stipend.
UGA Program Terms
1. The Grantee agrees to administer the Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) in accordance with all applicable regulations, policies, and procedures established by the Illinois Department on Aging.
2. The Grantee will have the ability to develop a program to carry out, directly or through contractual or other arrangements, a program in accordance with their approved application.
3. Funds made available under General Revenue shall supplement, and not supplant, any Federal, State, or local funds expended by the Grantee to provide services described in their approved application.

Uses and Restrictions
This program is used as matching funds to match federal funds that are provided by AmeriCorps Senior.
Reports
Quarterly reports - Final report is due 30 days after the close of the fiscal year.
Records
Grantees must maintain full and accurate records of Program operations for a period of 5 years after the end of the fiscal year to which they pertain.
