Short Description
The Illinois Department on Aging, through the relatives raising children program, provides assistance to relatives, regardless of their age or income, who are raising children. Funded by General Revenue Fund since 1998, the program has assisted thousands of relatives who are seeking resources and referrals in their efforts to provide safe, stable, and loving homes for children. The program establishes and funds support groups, provides gap-filling funds and develops resources through a competitive grant process. Area Agencies on Aging and non-profit organizations are eligible to apply. Program staff also provide training to relatives and professionals, technical assistance to providers, refers relatives to services and advocates on their behalf when they experience difficulty accessing services.

1. The Grantee agrees to administer the Grandparents and Other Relatives Raising Children Program in accordance with all applicable regulations, policies, and procedures established by the Illinois Department on Aging. 2. The Grantee will have the ability to develop a program to carry out, directly or through contractual or other arrangements, a program in accordance with their approved application. 3. Funds made available under General Revenue shall supplement, and not supplant, any Federal, State, or local funds expended by the Grantee to provide services described in their approved application.

Formula Matching Requirements
The Department receives state funding to enable Area Agencies on Aging and not-for-profit agencies to provide resources, referrals and services for relatives of any age, related by blood or marriage that are raising children.
Uses and Restrictions
GRG provides services to grandparents/relatives of any age and income. General Revenue funds are for grandparents/other relatives of any age who are raising their grandchildren. Title III E GRG funds are for grandparents/relatives age 55 and older.
