PROGRAM INFORMATION
Short Description
Authorized under Title XIX of the Social Security Act, Medicaid provides financial assistance to states for the provision of medical care to low-income individuals and others who may be eligible (pregnant women, infants, children and the elderly), as defined by age and poverty criteria. Certain services must be provided by states for the categorically needy or the medically needy. Federal funds are awarded to a designated State Medicaid Agency, and recipients must meet state requirements.
