PROGRAM INFORMATION
Short Description
PBMR will operate a mentoring program aligning it with broad organizational strategies. Through the mentoring program, PBMR seeks to achieve the following outcomes:
• Help youth participants maintain or increase school performance, as verified by data from the mentee’s school.
• Help youth participants increase competency in such areas as social development, academic achievement, and life skills (competence).
• Help youth participants develop an improved sense of positive self-worth and belief in the future by offering consistent positive encouragement and reinforcement (confidence) as a means of avoiding violence and other self-defeating behaviors.
• Help youth participants develop a positive bond with mentors and, through that relationship, positive relationships with others—teachers, friends, and family— and increased connections to school and community (connections).

Objective
This project will expand the Precious Blood Ministry of Reconciliation Mentoring Program (PBMR) which is a community-based mentoring program to serve some of Chicago’s youth at very high-risk for violence and incarceration. The cycle of poverty in the PBMR target areas has a widespread impact, contributing to issues like crime, unemployment, poor health outcomes, violence, isolation and depression. The communities to be served by the mentoring program live in dense areas experiencing extreme poverty. PBMR sits on the border that connects the much reported “Back of the Yards,” Englewood, New City, and other south side communities in Chicago.
