Short Description
The funding will enable GYO-IL to work with current GYO consortia, as well as community colleges, to implement targeted recruitment and outreach, support, and retention efforts within their programs to increase the number of male classroom teachers and further diversify the teacher workforce. Diversifying the teaching corps will further allow GYO-IL to improve the educational opportunities and outcomes for marginalized, minoritized, and underserved students across the state. Diversifying the teacher pipeline is particularly critical now, as the state and local school districts look to build back from the recent pandemic and (re)connect vulnerable students with powerful learning opportunities. For recruiting and training community-connected individuals of color to become licensed classroom teachers in hard-to-staff schools, GYO-IL will use these new targeted funds to administer the Historically Disadvantaged Male Initiative (Illinois Public Act 102-0017 Section 455) and utilize funds to meet the requirements of the HDMI grant as outlined in this agreement to specifically support males in pursuing teaching.
