Short Description
The Department of Human Services (DHS) pays funeral and burial expenses when a client's resources and all other sources of payment are less than the standard payment rate.

UGA Program Terms
The following persons may qualify for payment of funeral and burial expenses. A person may qualify from the first day of medical eligibility through the month in which cancellation is effective.
Clients who receive TANF, AABD Cash, AABD Medical, Assist, Moms and Babies, HBWD or Foster Care/Adoption Care. This includes any period of zero grant status and unmet spenddown status. A person may also qualify if they have applied and have been determined eligible.
A stillborn child of a mother who qualifies.
A baby who dies before being added to an active case.
A deceased person who would have qualified for Assist, Moms and Babies, or AABD Medical when they were alive if they had applied. Application has to be made within 3 months after the calendar month of death.
Note: Funeral and burial is not a covered service under the ACA Adult group.
