Short Description
The Governor and the General Assembly directs the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) to administer grants to specific local governments, units of government, educational facilities, and not-for-profit organizations for specific miscellaneous purposes to bolster the state’s economy, promote a clean environment, and improve the overall quality of life throughout the state of Illinois. Grant funds are to be used to fund the mapping the future of Illinois project by the Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs at Western Illinois University.

Grant Funds will be used in addition to other public funding for the administration of the MAPPING (Management and Planning Programs Involving Nonmetropolitan Groups) the Future of Your Community through Western Illinois University's Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs (IIRA). This will involve provision of technical assistance to Mapping communities to assist them with implementation projects to achieve their project goals, and the Grantee will co-sponsor workshops or seminars for Mapping the Future communities as they move from planning to action plan implementation.
