Short Description
The Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs (CYSHCN) Grant facilitates the with care coordination for children and youth with special health care needs. Pursuant to Section 505(3)(B) of the Social Security Act (42 USC 705), the State is required to use at least thirty (30) percent of Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Block Grant payments for services for children with special health care needs.

Objective
This grant not only helps Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) meet its federal grant requirements and the State statute and regulations, but also, improves the execution and performance of the Title V program in Illinois. More specifically, the grant fosters the State’s ability to provide Illinois children and youth who are impaired as a result of a congenital and/or acquired condition or have a condition which may lead to chronic impairment.

Program Accomplishments
Core Program services include comprehensive evaluation, specialty medical care, care coordination, and related habilitative services appropriated to the child’s needs and financial support for those families who are financially eligible. The program serves children with impairments associated with the following categories: orthopedic, nervous system, cardiovascular, craniofacial deformities, hearing, organic speech, eye and urinary system, cystic fibrosis, hemophilia, and inborn errors of metabolism.
