Short Description
To encourage the breeding of thoroughbred horses in this State and the ownership of such horses by residents of this State in order to provide for sufficient numbers of high quality thoroughbred horses to participate in race meetings in this State and to establish and preserve the agricultural and commercial benefits of such breeding and racing industries to the State of Illinois.

Illinois Horse Racing Act of 1975 (230 ILCS 5/30) (from Ch. 8, par. 37-30) PA 104-0464 Section 195. The following named amounts, or so much thereof as may be necessary, are appropriated to the Department of Agriculture for the objects and purposes hereinafter named: HORSE RACING Payable from the Illinois Thoroughbred Breeders Fund: For grants and other purposes for horse racing $2,600,000.00.

Grant monies are used to promote the breeding and racing of thoroughbreds in the State of Illinois. Specifically, monies are used to provide owners' awards, to provide purses and purse supplements at the pari-mutuel tracks for restricted stake races and for races restricted to Illinois registered thoroughbreds. Monies are also used for purses for Illinois registered thoroughbreds racing at county fairs. Monies may also be used for stallion owners' awards, promotion of the program and its administration.
